Hug Bacardi – Living Legends (Sunspot Jonz)

Mood: Bumpin’

A great Summer tune! Living Legends, an underground Hip Hop group from California, performed live in Kamloops in May 2010. An outdoor show at the Rez Bandshell was interesting to say the least… pulling out a small crowd mixed of teenagers and aboriginal peoples. Definitely an event that was new to me. The stage was built out of scrap wood and screamed, “GHETTO!”, which I quite enjoyed. Although the sound crew experienced numerous problems, Sunspot Jonz had MAD energy and passion to perform. The experience was incredible. I had discovered them about 10 years ago through a collaborative song with Slug. If you ever get the chance in your lifetime to attend a underground hip hop show, I HIGHly recommend it.

Other great songs from the Living Legends crew:
Angels with Dirty Faces – Living Legends
Night Prowler – Living Legends ft. Slug
Nothing Less – Living Legends ft. Slug
Signs – 3 Melancholy Gypsys

Qphoria Tanning (Kamloops)

I have been to a few different tanning salons throughout my lifetime. I am not a regular tanner but I seek some colour and artificial happiness every so often. Everything in moderation: “If you look ORANGE in your pictures…it is because you are ORANGE!” – Lisa Taylor

Qphoria, located in North Kamloops (Brock), is my favourite thus far. I have a simple “bronze” package which means I can use select beds, the third best of packages. I believe it was a purchase of 100 minutes for $40 which has lasted me a year. A fair price for the occasional stand up bed.

What has drawn me to tell you about this shop are two things:
1. Up until arriving a day before high school prom, I have never once waited in line. This is with dropping in after work, no appointment made. One thing you will learn about me is that I HATE waiting. My impatience with standing in line is not taken lightly.
2. An employee named, Anna. She is a bright face when you walk in, always greeting one with a smile. Providing continual great customer service and making a point to memorize customer names. Often, there are large breaks between my drop ins and she doesn’t forget the face or the name. I believe you will know who she is if you chose to step foot in this door.

Initially, I was hesitant to try Qphoria, its neighbouring shops do it no favours. It was chosen because the location was close to home. It is clean, modern and well taken care of. They offer many other services that I have not tried but I do recommend the salon as a whole if you find something that intrigues you. It is locally owned and the owner is usually present, friendly and willing to talk if you have the desire.
